What Is the difference between a theme and a template?
When HTML messages are sent from AWeber using our Drag & Drop Email Builder, they are sent using a template. This could be a plain template, AWeber designed template, or custom designed template. All templates are categorized under a theme. The theme is where the HTML/CSS code for a template is located. Themes allow templates to be saved with different content while maintaining the overall styles of the message. If you update the HTML/CSS for one of your themes, all templates created under that theme will be updated.
Where Can I See My Themes And Templates?
To see your themes and templates, hover over the Messages tab and click Email Template Manager.
From here, you will see all of your saved themes and templates. The name you provided for your saved template will be displayed. You'll notice the name of the theme reflects the name of the template you started with. For the below example, the "Welcome Message Template" was saved under the "Plain (Left Aligned)" theme and the "Newsletter Template" was saved under the "Twenty Twelve Blue" theme.
What If I Want To Edit The Content Of My Template And Not The HTML/CSS?
In order to update the content of a specific template without modifying the HTML/CSS, you need to click on the name of your saved template. Updating the content of the template with the Drag & Drop Email Builder will only effect the specific template you're working on - not all templates created under the theme.
How Can I Edit The HTML/CSS Of My Theme?
To edit the HTML/CSS coding of your theme, click on the "Edit Source" button of your theme. Note: Any HTML/CSS updates made to your theme will effect all templates saved under that theme.
