Facebook List Building Tips: Converting Facebook Likes Into Subscribers

If you’ve taken the time to grow your social media following on Facebook, you’re off to a great start in growing your business.

But ask yourself this: Now that you have all of those followers on Facebook, what else are you doing to turn them into fully engaged customers?

While social media is a great way to interact with customers on a personal level, you can also leverage the tool to build your email subscriber list. Chances are, there is a large percentage of people who like you on Facebook, but don’t receive your emails. End result, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity by not creating a way to convert Likes into subscribers.

To help you get started and gain quality business prospects (who doesn’t want that?), here are some tips for converting those Facebook likes into new email subscribers:

Take care of the basics

Before we can dive into the fun ways to generate interest in your emails, you must first give your followers a way to actually sign up for them. To do so, include an email sign up form and consider using a squeeze page on your Facebook business page. We may be stating the obvious here, but not many business owners are taking advantage of this simple and easy way to capture emails.

Not sure how this will look on your Facebook page? Here’s an example of the sign up form for DIY Natural, a do-it-yourself blog that promotes healthy living:

Be social

Active engagement on Facebook isn’t only an essential element of your social marketing strategy. It’s also an important way to open up the channels of communication between you and your customers and position yourself as a thought leader in your industry. And if your followers have tons of positive experiences with your Facebook interactions, they’ll be more likely to believe they’ll benefit from your emails as well.

If you think you’re too busy to be social, consider sharing pics and status updates while you work (as long as it’s entertaining for your customers!). Or, you can use a social scheduling platform, such as HootSuite, Buffer or Sprout Social, that allows you to schedule posts ahead of time.

Preview exclusive content

Whether you have a helpful ebook, interesting blog post, or a delicious new recipe, why not tease a little content?

Share only an excerpt of a blog post and encourage people to sign up for your newsletter if they want access to the full post. The idea here is to capture their interest, but leave them wanting more. Fortunately for you, the only way they can get what they want is by signing up to receive your emails. Win!

Here’s a fun way we encouraged our followers to sign up for cool content by previewing the tool, Email Libs:

Host a contest or giveaway

Everyone loves winning prizes, so why not offer them yourself?

Create a contest on your own or use a handy-dandy Facebook app like Raffle-copter to help you create and manage contests. Of course, you’ll want to include a mandatory email address field for participants to fill out when they enter. Or, consider giving away early releases of a new product or a complimentary service to the first 50 people who sign up for your email newsletter!

Hosting a contest not only improves social engagement during the contest, but even after the contest is over. In a study conducted by TAMBA,

Create a Facebook ad

Expand your social reach beyond current followers by promoting your product, lead generation content, offer, etc. via a paid Facebook ad. Fortunately, they’re really easy to put together — just be sure to include Call To Action (CTA) buttons that refer users to a sign up form landing page!

You can also reach customers and prospects through mobile Facebook ads since 19 percent of time users spend on mobile is on Facebook. You even have the option to run Instagram ads through the same platform.

You worked hard to build your Facebook followers. Now’s the time to start turning them into quality subscribers.
